An Exhibition in Nanjing Museum

Brochures from this exhibition

Constructions

My favorite art is "Double-Fish-Shaped Vase in Three Colors"

On March 14th, I went to Nanjing Museum with Candice to see an exhibition about China’s treasure and art. It doesn’t only shows the thousands years of China’s art and valuable unearthed collections, but also shows contribution by ancient China’s science and technology to human society.

This museum is close to my house, I spent 10 museums walking to there, and this is not my first time to visit there. The museum which in front of the Purple Mountain was constructed in the traditional style and it looks magnificent and mysterious. The courtyard which is around the museum is also a good place for visitors to relax and enjoy scenery. When I stood under the entrance of the newly built Art Gallery, I focused on a plaque which was hanged highly in gold, the plaque reads “Wuhua Tianbao”, and it means earth’s splendors and heaven’s treasures. It has 12 different topic exhibitions in 2 floors.

There are some exhibitions about folk art, bronze ware, porcelain, and etc on the first floor. The second floor has some exhibitions about modern art, embroidery, jade ware, calligraphy, painting, and art gallery. I was attracted by the ‘Double-Fish-Shaped Vase in Three Colors’ at Ancient Chinese Earth Ware Hall. It was created in Tang Dynasty. It is unique and vivid because you can see two carps in each side. The vase pained in yellow, green and brown and likes delicate bright. In addition, a couple of fish means lucky in China’s traditional culture. I also visit projector room to learn more about the history about these treasures and technology about how to create them deeply.

This Art Center is provided with modern facilities as multi-media guide. It also has restaurant, antique store, bookstore, and handicraft store for entertainment. I have bought some characteristic artistic commodities.

I like this Art museum and I had a good time in here. I thought the museum was boring to see some unearthed collections before I came to Nanjing Museum. However, I really wanted to spend the whole day visiting these valuable treasurers. I am obsession on them. That’s really cool!

Jenny's School Club

We work for charity fundraising!

Acts of kindness~

The left one is me.

I chose the Sunlight Volunteer Club from our school for my Education and Career Planning, this club was organized by the Grade 12 students and it had 3 years history. The volunteer Club helps people in need; it also has some events or activities with social charity organizations which have reached the standard. I have volunteered at the Sunlight Volunteer Club between the dates of September 1st, 2008 and January 1st, 2009 for 11 hours.
.
I totally spent 10 hours volunteering at the Nanjing Blind School, and it is a good memory for me. My job was accompanying and playing games with the blind children, but I had to pay attention to look after their safe and emotion as they were lonely and quiet. However, they were kinder and purer than common people. Sometimes I had an insight into their emotion heart to heart, and the communion with them was not difficult. I thought they were expecting to chat with people and they also had the positive attitude to face this world. They are same as us, but the only difference is they use heart to see this world.
.
In addition, I had joined the activity of the Red Cross once. This is charity event and I wore the red jacket as a volunteer, and my friends and I raised the wind from passersby. “Contribute a little love, please! Thank you!” was our slogan. When passersby passed us, we would say our slogan, sometimes some people ignored us but we never gave up. We kept our fervor and bona fides, and we hoped that it could let passersby to care it. During this charity fundraising, I had insight into strangers’ emotions from their words and deeds. I learned some skills which have communions with people and keep a good attitude. When I was tired or worried, I tried to keep a balance and calm down.

I had got an unforgettable experience since I went to the Nanjing Blind School. I met a boy whom was my first friend soon at here. Once he and I played at the garden in the end of the summer, I saw a butterfly flying close to us.

I told him “Don’t move, the butterfly is close to you.”
He said “Butterfly? What is look like? Is it beautiful?”

I said “Yeah, it is nice and it can bring hopes to the sky!”

He raised his hands forward to sky and said “I want to catch butterfly! Help me, please!”

I sighed and said “It has flown into the sky, we can’t catch. Butterfly is disappearing…”

Jenny's Physical Activity

Recently, I have an increasing number of times to do extracurricular activities for improving my personal health and developing my habit. It is a good chance for me to enjoy sports and it also is a good time to rest without a doubt. I have done a plenty of physical activities since October 10th, 2008. I spent 11 hours taking place for it. Riding, swimming and hiking are my favorite sports and they can decrease my pressure from school and rest my weary body.
.
I usually ride my bike to school with my friends when the weather is nice. Sometimes I have to give it up because of the rainy day or traffic jam. My home is far from the school so I need to spend at least half an hour cycling commonly. In my opinion, riding is a very healthy and easy sport which doesn’t need you to have high skills and good physical qualities. I have ridden since I was 5 year old and nobody has taught me to ride in my memory. Riding is also a relaxed sport for me because tramping pedals can exercise my leg muscles and pedaling cans my whole body’s ligaments and tendons. When I was pedaling, I would like to chew gum. Chewing can relax my body and mind; I didn’t feel tired at all. Keep my passions on my bike!In addition, riding teaches me a lot. Controlling halter is just like controlling life, crossroads in my life is still waiting my decision.

Swimming is also my favorite sport. I always go to the swimming pool with my father. During holiday, I persisted in swimming because I felt satisfied and proud of myself when I can do better after my efforts. However, I am not a swimming gift, I also had some problems at the beginning: I was afraid of water. I felt helpless and precarious when I learned it. Sometimes, you want to success, you must overcome difficulties. I am proud because I have overcome metal pressure and myself after my endeavors and unremitting training. If I can’t achieve my goal successfully, don’t lose heart at any failure, but try again. I should have enough patience to analyze the cause of my defeat and how to practice following. I love this game and I enjoy this studying and exercising. I think swimming can improve the vital capacity and help blood circulation and it is very helpful to my physical well-being. I also can get energy and relax in this way without a doubt.

We know if I want to be successful, I must commit many efforts and sweat in practicing and having patience to try. I also need to ask elders or coaches moderately as soon as I meet any problems. Do sports is not only good for me to practice my body, but also good for me to temper my willpower. If you need to work out, don’t wait and procrastinate you schedule about exercising. Sometimes, walking up and down the stairs would beat any exercise machine.

My Volunteer work

My partners and I were tried after working~

Mr. Harris and me at the new PE office~

My friends with me neaten the PE equipments!

Recently, I did some works as a volunteer for my Community Involvement. From last year to 2009 January 9, I helped my teachers Mr. Harris and Mr. Wu with my friends after school. I spent 11.5 hours working totally and I have the log and photos to prove and remember that. In my opinion, it is a good chance for me to practice and improve my ability in different ways. Let me show you my volunteer experience from the society. Enjoy it ...

I spent 8.5 cleaning, organizing and planning our new PE office for Mr. Harris who is Grade 10 PE teacher. My partners and I put all the PE equipments out of the room first, this is a huge project because it is so difficult for girls to take these weightily equipments, including badmintons, hockey, chesses and others. After that, we swept and mop the floor, wiped the windows and tables. Then, we needed to place all the PE equipments in the correct spots again, we improved our work speed at this time because we got some skills how to decide works to everyone and cooperate. Not only we organize this office, but also we have to make everything neat. We did the great job on time, and our achievement belongs to everyone whom contributed time and energy to be a volunteer. I learn the cooperation is based on the team spirit, communion and intellection with partners.

The next project is helping Mr. Wu to make the nets for puck because it is difficult to buy in China. I spent extra hours helping him weave the nets with other two girls. My job was holding the nets, guiding and managing my partners. The second girl controlled a special needle which is made of the metal for knitting, the third girl held the string which threaded the needle. Knitting a net is more complicated than knitting a sweater because knitting nets need there people to work together, it doesn’t your own work. I should do talk with my partners and think about which part belongs to me or her, and we need to supervise and urge each other. If we had taken made any mistake, we might have knitted again. It doesn’t only need me to de practical, but also need me to be careful whenever I work. Little by little, knitting teaches me a lot in my life and studies. It teaches me the attitude how to face a problem, it is important for me to calm down.

I learn about the most importance of a volunteer is honest, ardor and hardworking, but first you like this job what you are doing, and keep the passion and attention whenever you work. In addition, the most importance of a group is cooperation and solidarity, which means we should work heart to heart without bias. Undoubtedly, it is fair and advantageous for everyone. Communion, cooperation, practice and keeping a good attitude are skills required to work effectively and safely, we succeed as individual and collaborative workers.

On the other hand, it has given me a space to improve my own ability and developed my communion with others; volunteer also let me into society little by little because it is different from what we study at school. I enjoy it, did you?

I hope I have more chances and times to be a member of some charity organization at next time.I can do better.

I am enjoying French food!

garden
grilled chicken and duck with baked potatoes
pumpkin soup with Crisp skin

On December 21st, we selected a French restaurant to have a lunch with grade 12 mentors, La Table De Mr. Eiffel at Nanjing Road. We chose this restaurant because the French food is famous around of the world and it has a long history, we also had personal reason that is this restaurant belongs to our classmate Hugo’s mother who comes from France.

We attended at 11 O’clock, the atmosphere was so quiet and gentle. There are a lot of photographs and paintings about the construction or sceneries of Pairs around the walls. The appearance style is both eastern and western: the table, chairs, tableware are French modern styles; the wall lobby is painted with Chinese dragon; the ceiling of hall is decorated by Chinese traditional pattern. Especially, the French tableware are mainly forks and knives and they use different kinds knifes during different dishes, but the Chinese tableware is mainly chopsticks. On the table, there are three glasses: The left one is for drinking Cabernet; the middle one is for drinking white wine; and the right one is for drinking champagne.

In the past, the French food gave me a mistaken impression that their food was heavy and complicated. In fact, The French cuisine is simple; it relies on high quality and fresh ingredient. In addition, French food has commonly four dishes which are salad, soup, main dish and dessert. Between two dishes, we need to wait for a long time.

The first dish was fruit salads which are cucumber, small tomatoes, and lettuces. The second dish was pumpkin soup with Crisp skin. This soup was salty and sweet. The third dish was grilled chicken and duck with baked potatoes. They were very toothsome. The last dish was apple pie, it was sweet and tasty.

Our goal was not only enjoying French yummy food, but also learning about French culture from this lunch. We know the difference between Chinese culture and French culture, both them are unique. French cookery has variety, creative and exquisite, relying on French colorful, romantic culture and French polite manners.

I had a great time at there.

The Sculpture Exhibiton

Our class stand in the front ot the Sculipture Exhibition Building.

It is me.

The Sleeping child is my favorite sculpture.

On December 4th, my Art teacher Ms. Hadley takes our class (10-B) to visit to an exhibition in Nanjing University which called Wu Weishan’s sculpture of cultural figures. That is so excellent. There are a variety of sculptures what have both traditional and contemporary styles, his unique freehand style depend on his education experience from the eastern and western. These artworks were done by a famous artist: Wu Weishan. I think this exhibition was quiet interesting and meaningful. I like this exhibition because I saw many artworks about some people.

1. DESCRIBE THE ARTWORK:
The sleeping child is one of his sculptures of cultural figures, this artwork is attracted me by its unique special appearance. Sculpture is commonly big, but this one is just about 6 centimeters in length and its color is bronze. The artist sculpted the appearance of a sleeping child’s face and expression carefully. Moreover, this artwork has an interesting background story; it was modeled on a visit to a friend’s home, and Ms. Wu saw a child sleeping sweetly and his mouth was open because it had difficulty breathing through the nose. Wu thought that child is so lovely and he looked like an angle. Wu Weishan decided to sculpt this scene. This subject of this sculpture is about a little and pure baby is sleeping heavily. His head is rising upwards slightly, and his eyes are open, his mouth is open slightly and looks like a little flower bud.
.
2. INTERPRET THE ARTWORK:
The sleeping child makes me feel an indistinct emotion about childhood, it reminds me of the memories about my childhood, and it makes me think about the purest and truest material from the children. The artwork was sculpted realistically and shows a child who is sleeping sweetly. Therefore, this is one reason that makes me think this artwork relates the childhood and some unforgettable memories. Moreover, the artist also penetrated into his subject’s inner world in order to capture it, and he caught the scene of a sleeping child. I think the artist’s intention is to make a purest and truest material from the life, he chooses the sleeping child because the child can bring us the instinct emotion and memories about childhood. The sleeping child makes me to feel warm.
.
3. JUDGE THE ARTWORK:
I like this artwork because it makes me think of life deeply and brings me some memories about childhood. Childhood, teenage, youth and old age are parts of the life, they are the life circular. What is the meaning of life? It does not mean we should obey the destiny; we should live better than before.During the lifetime, we should treasure and enjoy the childhood and other ages. Moreover, the sleeping child uses the purest and truest manner to make me feel warm and remind me of my childhood. On the other hand, I believe other people might appreciate the sleeping child because everyone has a childhood which is full of love and happiness in common. Each child is an apple is parents' eyes. They pay the most attention to their child and they spend a long time caring and loving child. The children are pure because they can do anything that they want from their heart. When they are sad, they can cry; when they are happy, they can laugh. They look like spring which is full of vigor and pure.

Guest Artist

On the last Monday which was December 1st, The GCA was invited a famous artist who is a professor for researching Chinese classical garden. Professor Zhao came here and gave us a wonderful lecture on Chinese garden, and this presentation brought a variety of information about what the Chinese garden are, the main types of Chinese garden, and characteristic the Suzhou garden.

The Chinese garden has a long history, and it is a treasure of Chinese ancient construction and Art. When it was created, it had some effects come form the Buddhism, painting, poetry and other esthetics. Moreover, we also call the Chinese garden as poetic garden, because they were created by the combination of landscape with poems. That also is the syncretism of nature with Art. The structure Chinese garden includes natural hill, water, trees, flowers; and factitious architecture, pavilion, terraces, pavement, both them create every Chinese garden which is unique and brilliant.

Altogether, the main types of Chinese garden are the Royal garden, the Private garden, the Temple garden, the Scenic spots garden. The Chinese classical garden was built impeccably with functional, structural and esthetical considerations. Not only it offers a comfortable and gentler environment for men to live, but also it offers a natural and spiritual space for men to think and rest. Going insider and outside through the pavement of Chinese classical garden, people can touch the blossom from branch or enjoy tea, poem, flower arrangement or playing musical instrument in the garden. That is a real home.

Suzhou is China's well-known "city of gardens"; the Suzhou garden is the most famous in Chinese gardens. Especially, Suzhou garden has a variety of exquisite and multifarious buildings. They have a lot of little pavilions and large constructions with the basic beam, and the building combines with trees, flowers, pond, and hill perfectly. Such as the Surging Waves Pavilion, it represents the Song Dynasties. The Suzhou garden has a special aesthetics what is dissymmetry, that means approach the nature better.

Therefore, the Chinese garden is rich in literary and esthetical connotations, it also has philosophies. It lets men connect with nature nearly, it lets us come back to our inner heart, and come back to ancient idealism.
